Photographic projects to play with

I linked to the photo project Little people – a tiny street art project recently. I think it is such a sweet photo project so I was inspired to try something similar… I took out one of my dad’s tiny people from Märklin World and do a similar photo:

Little people
Can you spot the little lady on the bench? :-)

I love to come up with photographic projects and I always feel so inspired when I find others. Photos projects are always easy and fun to play with! Here are some of my recent favorites.

Young and now

Have you seen the photo project Young and now? It features two photos from each participant, one of your young self and one of you now in a similar position or style! I adore this idea and the execution of it! I want to make all my childhood photos right now! I especially like the photos of siblings posing together as it makes me think of my brother and me; tall and short and vise versa now!

It’s such a fun playful idea, and putting the 2 photos together also tells so much about times changes and life. Love that. [found via robayre]

LP Portraits

A while back I was admiring some very funny LP portraits at flickr where people use a record cover as part of a portrait. A face gets held in front of your face when you take the photo – but it’s only fun if you put a little effort into your photograph. The showing part of you should be dressed and styled as the LP photo and shot at a correct angle! It’s a bit like the play with see-through computer screens, but this is more retro! Who wants to model for me?! Even more photos can be found in the group sleeveface and the site sleeveface.com where this art-style is described as one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion!

These are just the top of a growing iceberg of fun photographic projects to play with this summer. Keep your eyes open and jot down any ideas you get in a notebook. I like the idea of doing still life photography, gathering objects from the house (or the forest or garden or beach or…) and arranging them in an artistic way the way painters do and then taking photos. Lay them out on a big white sheet or paper and snap from above, or build a light box or find the best corner in your home!

Other ideas include daily projects
, self portraits, snapping your food before and after eating, taking photos of your mornings and/or evenings, going to a photo booth each week or searching the net for even more ideas! These are just some I’ve seen around and like. Have fun and “make it your own” as Dawn says. :-)

  1. I haven’t seen the old/new photo project before…..I love that idea. I have been wanting to post a photo of me with a mullet in 5th grade……it was brutal….but it would be so funny!

  2. I’m currently participating in a project called “Scrap your Day” where on the 25th of every month, for one full year, you take pictures all day and can then make a scrapbook layout (if you wish) about it. The idea is to have consistent shots like the clock in the morning and before going to bed, every meal of the day, a view out the window and a self portrait. But each month brings other challenges like doing still life with objects at home or doing different angles. It’s fun and you can join in any time. Go see http://www.shimelle.co.uk/ for more info.

Love the picture of the little woman! You could go all around town with her and take pictures in different situations. Would be fun.

Oh yeah, I just remembered: Keri Smith posted on her blog about a guerilla art project done by students. They took photos of themselves in certain parts of the school (you could do it anywhere really) then printed the photos and posted them near where they had taken the photo. Pretty cool.

PS Can you tell this subject is inspiring me? lol

  3. I think we are checking the same sides when it comes to photography projects.:-) I’ve seen the LP pictures too and it’s on my list of photoprojects. I haven’t seen the past and present photos though and I will defintitley do this one as well.

You might also want to try this project: “Make photos of yourself during an ordinary day of your life” which I’ve put on my blog some time ago. Just click on my Name/Website link.
