Thrifting along this summer
When we went to the Craft Market in Dalarna (the area Dalecarlia in Sweden) this summer I sat in the backseat of the car by myself (no brother!) and created! I brought a big plastic bag filled with magazine clippings and my big Art journal, and then I sat there and cut and glued. I’m so lucky that I don’t get carsick! The trip was over way fast because I had so much fun in the car! It was like a traveling mini studio! Plus we did all kinds of fun stops in cute towns (Säter for example) and at small thrift shoppes along the road!
I bought this heart shaped mini bowl:
Isn’t it lovely? And also a tin can in orange flower bliss:
At the market I bought a necklace with different colored stones that hang down – I adore this style of necklace! I also got a white candle holder with some incense oil that you poor in a little plate on top of the candle – it will smell lovely! And this hand carved coffee spoon:
Isn’t it a beautiful spoon? I love it so much. It’s tiny and was way too cheap for the time it must’ve taken to make it!
This is a spread I did last week in my diary:
A few drawings and some writing from the exhibition at East Asia Museum (?stasiatiska in Stockholm).
Also thrifted these green books that I won’t read but recycle:
I make notebooks out of the covers! Love these green covers so much! I was so happy about the covers that I even forgot to look inside before I bought them. I was happy to discover that some of the pages has fun illustrations that I will use in collages (more recycling)!
Ex libris printed in the book.
Cousteau! And also in the books:
These food containers was thrifted by my mom:
I got the big one, and I will use it to store… pens or something like that. Something to create with I think, hehe.
What I got at the museum:
A mirror with a lotus flower and these Chinese cell phone charms that is just so darn… charming!? Tiny treasures makes me smile.
Happy thrift summer!

What fun! I love your little green books. I can see them as wonderful journals…and, oh, the collage goodies inside!
It’s like a treasure hunt. You had some great finds.
Cool pattern on the book covers! What great finds too. It has been far to long since I have been out thrifting. :(
I’m so impressed with your diary–your biographer will have a lot of fun writing about you someday. And that little heart shaped bowl is fabulous!
Oooh, love the food containers! And those books look so great!
I have never quite adjusted to the idea of turning books, an object of beauty in itself, into something where you rip the words out. However, if it saves them from landfill, and they contribute to more beautiful objects of art, so be it!
Great finds Hanna. Was delighted to discover recently you had linked to me on your links page. Guess I better update that blog, eh?
Best,
Ellen
The quality of your finds astound me! I love the dish and the books!
One of my fave movies is Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris!
Lovely things, so glad you are having a wonderful summer
so much goodness!!!
and the books…what a find…
i can’t wait to see what you do with them!
WOW! I want to jump on a plane and come visit right now. Those books are absolutely beautiful.
You found such great treasures, Hanna. I love it!
Love the books. I’ve just discovered I can knit in a car/bus. Sure wish I could cut and paste. :)
You have some wonderful finds Hanna. I absolutely love that little heart shaped green bowl. So very pretty. I love looking around shops like that. We call them charity shops in the UK and you can get some real treasures there and lots of good quality books which would be too expensive to buy new. Happy thrifting.
You make a great treasure hunter! Those books are the best of the lot too.
