Art Journal Peek: Dark Nightmares vs. Summer Light
One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.
Paulo Coelho
A peek at another of my Art Journal spreads today. I did the two page on separate days, as you might have guessed. They are not working together much, but that doesn’t matter to me. Though now that I look at them like this, it’s like Dark Nightmares vs. Summer Light, don’t you think?
The for-ever-fight between of Good vs. Evil, Night vs. Day, Life and Death in an epic battle. The ingredient that every good story has parts of.
Art Journal Peek
The Coelho quote above is a reminder of how short life is, or can be… Sorry for the brusqueness of it, you know – life ending – but it’s a truth we sometimes need to remind ourselves of.
Anyway, that’s not what this post is about. This is about this page in my art journal that I wanted to share with you right now.
But of course, my analogy of Dark Nightmares vs. Summer Light as a name for this page might not fit either. My dark nightmare monster can’t take of, he can’t even fly. He is kind of cute and harmless.
Isn’t there even a starry twinkle in his eyes, like he is being flirtatious? Or is it just me that see it?
I have used mostly watercolors and on top of it doodled in black ink. Yes a whole page filled with pink sparkly stars and watercolors mostly, and magic of course.
This Art Journal Peek is ending, but as always: add a bit of magic to your journal if and when you can. It’s good for your health.

Love your pages and the Paulo Coelho quote is good. Yes, darkness and light belong to one another, but your yellow bird does not look dark or worrying. Have a great weekend, and thanks for visiting my blog, Valerie
Thanks Valerie for leaving me a comment! I love good quotes, and though I did not intend to make a bird, I see the likeness. It’s a monster with duck feet, haha, and crocodile teeth… maybe. ;-)
Doodles always catch my eye and your flower page has lots of them. I think you captured the idea of Dark Nightmares vs. Summer Light.
PS – love the quote at the top. So true!!
Hi Janet, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I think I will try to do more sketches on dark vs. light in the future – it’s fun to play with the contrast.
Very inspirational post full of whimsical fun art! I love it! At least your dark is cute…I like to think my dark is cut also! That’s just how I like to live!! Wonderful colour… thanks for sharing!!
