Painting a lot of Hearts | Time-lapse video
Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts.
Paramahansa Yogananda
All through February I have been painting colorful hearts in my little notebook. I could probably continue for a while longer, because there is no end to the ways you can portray something that has meaning to you…
Each time I sat down to doodle, draw, paint or splatter paint on the page I filmed the process in time-lapse mood. I have shared some of these already on instagram (where I’m iHannas if you want to follow along there), but I also saved each one and made a compilation video, showing all of them in chronological order.
I hope it will inspire you to bring out your colors. What you paint doesn’t have to be hearts, it can be anything. But allow your ideas to evolve for a while. Create a series of work, that comes from your heart.
Painting a lot of Hearts in February
Here’s the video. Enjoy!
You can also watch the introduction and the January time-lapse video, if you haven’t done so yet.
In January I created some abstract pages in this journal. This month, March, I’m experimenting with (mostly) selfies…
I am really enjoying this low-key project right now. Even though I’m filming each painting session, it’s no hassle to set it up as I have the tripod in place all the time. I don’t need to title, scan, edit and upload each page, like I did with the collage project last year. It takes a while to upload to instagram of course, but I don’t even have to do that. It’s just a bonus that I can do on days when I have the time. I love that!
What theme/subject matter would you pick if you were painting the same thing over and over again?
Take care.

Loved all your gorgeous hearts, Hanna! And I really enjoyed both this post and your video! To answer your question, I think I, too, would choose hearts. And then, I might choose outer space objects (planets, moons, stars) or trees or ocean things (waves, coral, jellyfish, etc). But I’m definitely a heart-enthusiast! It’s fun to see all the variations of hearts you created! Thanks for sharing them with us!
I have plans for a ‘simple’ one-item-object-journal’ and already bought canvas/cloth for the cover… I’m just over thinking what subject or theme I will pick. I love your hearts but I’m not a ‘heart-shape’ girl so it has to be something else… it will come to me I’m sure.
I’m trying to finish a journal with a range of techniques – I’m playing again! Perhaps one word at a time like JOY or something to see how many ways to make it work?
What gorgeous hearts you’ve made! If I had to pick a theme, I’d choose circles.
