Stalogy B6 set up for journaling & planning

I documented the entire process of my very first Stalogy B6 set up! In the video I share the pages in a Stalogy B6 notebook that I wrote about getting and craving yesterday. I do a quick pen test and demonstration of the features I like about the notebook as well as talk about the index and different sections. In today’s post I’m sharing that video but also a bit about my inspirations for filming and setting up the notebook in this way (playing with so many cute stickers!), and at the end I’ll link resources for inspiration and my product recommendations from the video. Enjoy!

Why would you watch a video like that you might ask? I hope it inspires you to decorate and play in your own planner/notebook of course! But don’t take it as anything you yourself “have to do”. It’s just… inspiration!

Decide on what to “set up”

What kind of sections and list pages you need in your bullet journal or planner notebook is very much dependent on what you personally need, so I don’t think you should blindly take someone’s advice on how to set yours up. Not even mine, haha. Instead, do a bit of a brainstorm on a loose paper and list things that you think is necessary to include in your planner, and then also think about what you enjoy tracking and why you’d want to write those things down.

I could write a whole blog post on the stupid things that people seam to be tracking because “everyone else does” (water intake!), and maybe I will write about that another time – but here is my advice for today: Just think before you “add in” sections and pages. Will it serve a purpose in your life or just take up space and your time? Will you enjoy tracking this or that, or even going back to that list? Will it help you in your life or just be there because it looks like most other women on YouTube have set up their Stalogy journals like that? :-)

Always do your own thing. Mix and match. Bring in ideas from all over the place and consolidate them into your own new, whole. That’s what I tried to do with my set up!

Video: Stalogy B6 set up

I’ll list what I did in my first Stalogy B6 notebook below, but first here’s the video in two parts, where I show the sections, how I created the headers and in what order I’ll add it all in!

Bullet journaling and journaling in one notebook

This set up is new to me in a way, but also I guess, in line with what I have done before. When I started a new Bullet Journal a couple of years ago I knew I wanted to combine journaling with planning in some way, and I tried it that way then stopped. My relationship with bullet journaling is kind of ongoing, kind of on a hiatus. I really love the entire system and idea, but I’ve fallen of the bandwagon of using my own Bujo many times by now. The one I have at the moment spans a couple of years back, and last year I only kept some statistics and a running list of tv-series and movies watched, although I forgot to fill in half of the things I watched on those lists so they are incomplete which to me, makes them rather useless. And annoying to me, because incomplete pages/lists/project ideas always makes me feel like I’ve failed.

In any case, the new journal I want to work with now has some elements of a regular Bullet Journal but after the initial pages I am using it as my diary. In bullet journaling you’d keep a running list each day of tasks, events and thoughts, but right now I do not feel that I need to do that. Instead, I will use this notebook as my private diary, where I write when ever I feel the need to jot down what’s on my mind, things that has happened during the week and anything I need to process on paper really. I have kept a diary since I was a kid, and I always have one. I don’t write in it daily, but I get back into it at least a couple of days each month. If I don’t, I feel kind of lost.

Stalogy B6 set up inspiration

My inspiration to film and “set up” my Stalogy notebook in this specific way, allowing myself to indulge in using lots of washi tape, cute stickers, Hello Kitty images and pink cuteness (which I’ve always loved) comes from Sarah Jane and her YouTube channel Messy and Beautiful. I found her after my initial research on different notebook sizes was done, and I guess I was drawn in because she uses a B6 as well, the size I finally settled on. But most of all, she likes the same kind of cute stuff that I love. Her stash and buying habits are a lot different from mine, but there were something about the way she talked about her pages that drew me in and I binge watched all of her Stalogy content and then watched a few of her stationary hauls as well, which unfortunately made my own wish list grow quite a bit longer. LOL.

I thought that since I was so into that kind of content myself, I wanted to create my own similar content for others to enjoy. I decided to film my own very first “set up process”, to document my decisions and process, and also get a chance to talk about stickers, tape and new pens with likeminded peeps. It then took me a while to go back and add a voice over and edit the whole thing, which turned out to be a three part series because I had filmed so much content. Then I watched it again myself to fix the generated subtitles (YouTube provides you with a first draught of what is said in the video, but that text does not have any capital letters, punctuation marks and it does sometime miss-hear or interpret words wrong, so I think you simply must go through it too and “fix it up” which is a slow and tedious process for sure). Anyway, that’s the video done and uploaded!

Stalogy Set Up Ideas

What I Set Up in my Stalogy (for now, this might change in the future as I use it or drop it):

  • The Index – A table of contents that will be added to as the notebook fills up. I numbered all the 365 pages in this notebook myself, it took a while but I don’t mind.
  • A future log – the bujo equivalent of a monthly calendar overview page, where you get a space to write down what is coming up within the next couple of months. I made mine a spread of six sloths for the rest of the year, but at the rate I am filling my Stalogy it might not last me that long. In any case, I am not utilizing this very much at the moment because I just don’t have any long-term plans right now, and any meetings or appointments I add into the google calendar on my phone so that they’re always with me. I don’t feel that I actually need this space, but I still think it is nice that it is there as a visual reminder of the months that are coming up.
  • The Monthly Calendar – a spread where you draw up the boxes of all the days of the current or upcoming month. And again, because of the online digital calendar, I don’t really need this spread but it’s a lot of fun to play with. I have added my tiny stickers here, utilized the few random planner stickers that I owned, and written little notes about my days. It is fun to see how the weeks look, and I do think it helps my brain process the days better (after not having had any paper planner for a couple of years). Another thing that helps with processing days passing, understanding where I spend my time and energy (and what’s missing) is the tracker.
  • The monthly tracker – the space where you can x in your good habits (like writing, exercise and taking a walk for me) and things that are important to you. I either go all in and track a whole bunch of stuff, or totally forget about this and don’t do it at all. At the moment I have set up a monthly tracker where I note down about 15 things that I would like to keep doing or do more of. I could never fit all of them into one single day, so my goal is not to have an X in all the daily squares, but instead to read through the list daily and fill in what I have done while being reminded of what I did not get to on that day (or that week or even month)! I think this is a great way to note where you’re spending time and what you never find the time for (exercise!). :-) I realized after I finished editing my videos that I never got to drawing out the tracker while filming, but there are plenty of others that do. I feel that tracking is very personal, so that’s okay with me.
  • List Pages – In Bullet Journal speak they’re called Collections but they’re just pages already dedicated to upcoming or running lists of things you want to keep at the front of your mind/notebook. Mine include pages for tracking what tv-series I finish, movies watched, postcards and happy mail received, things I have ordered online, a wish list of items I want to purchase (or wish I could afford to purchase), idea list pages (one for writing ideas and one for filming and video ideas) as well as a more general to do-list and a brain dump, of things that come up in my mind.

I mention a lot of different things and products in the Stalogy set up video. Some pens, stickers but also other creatives (see the list below). Here’s the extensive list if you want to check any of them out for yourself.

  • Stalogy notebook 365 Days in B6 size by ニトムズ (Nitoms) – my new favorite notebook of all times, actually. I am so enjoying using it!
  • Pentel Hybrid Dual Metallic Liquid Gel Roller Pen – amazing pens with Shimmering Metallic Colours
  • Signo RT1 Retractable Gel Ink Pen – a new favorite black ink pen of mine, with an extra fine point (0.5 mm) and a nice rubber grip pen body. I’m in love with this pen!
  • Fashion Angels Sticker Book – containing more than a thousand “ridiculously cute stickers for kids” ages 6+ and old ladies like me obv. Not a favorite for me, but it has 40 pages and some of the stickers are really nice.
  • Kawaii Cartoon Girls Stickers – similar to the ones I use in box, these are 200 sticker sheets (!) of very cute pink PET Transparent sticker sheets found in journaling supplies. If you want other fun colors check out the Kaleidoscope sticker sheets on Amazon.
  • Pentel EnerGel Pearl RTX Pen – a retractable liquid gel pen (0.7mm) in a pack of four different colors (blue, purple, red and black). I think it’s a great pen, I love how rich the black is but I feel it’s a bit to heavy for the Stalogy paper and grid there, so I’m using it elsewhere right now.

I think that’s it for products, but if I’ve forgotten something or you have a question don’t hesitate to leave your questions below. I’d love to hear from you about your personal notebook updates of late.

Inspirations mentioned in my Stalogy B6 set-up video(s)

  • Messy and beautiful – Sarah Jane’s youtube channelwhere I got a lot of inspiration for setting up own very first Stalogy in the size B6. For example start with the video B6 Planner Setup here.
  • PicCollage App – available both for iphone and android. I think it’s a great and very versatile app that I’ve used for years by now. You can make grid collages with it, but also scrapbook-like layouts and bubble text like the one I use in my headers.

My own Stalogy Wish List [not extensive]

As a wee bonus, here are some things I added to my wish list page that I talk about in the video.

B6 Stalogy Sparkle Star Jelly Cover for Planners and Notebooks on Amazon
  • B6 Sparkle Star Jelly Cover – a similar transparent cover to what all the other cool planner girls are using, and I want one for my Stalogy too of course! Love how sparkly the stars look!
  • Gilded washi tape – a set of different pink washi tapes that includes gold foiling, bows and stars, could it get any better? This set is soooo cute!
  • Stickerland Hello Kitty & Friends stickers – this set looks cute, right?
  • A6 Refillable Notebook Binder – this is a ring binder in the wrong size, but if you find this one as B6 let me know. This is exactly what I want. Laser magenta glitter pink cover!
  • The Moterm Covers (that I mentioned before) seams to be the most popular notebook cover to get for your Stalogy planner any size, but I also like the cute pea green leather cover (as well as bright yellow and baby pink that I also mentioned in yesterdays post).
  • Washi Tape & Stickers on Etsy – my heart-list (wish list) is chock full of tapes and stickers I wish I could splurge on today. But alas, I can’t. Maybe you find something there that you’d like to buy? Let me know so I can come look and admire your stash if you do.
  • Vellum Dashboards – many smaller business creators makes these at home, these are by Brooke Evah Prints that I just happened upon, but all of these are beautiful! Where do you get your vellum dividers / dashboard paper inserts for your journal? Or do you make your own? I want to try that.

Thanks for reading, linking, liking and sharing my notebook love. Take care. xo

My future log and some Dear Diary writing, which I got to in my second Stalogy set up video.
